Sui quantum-resistant security upgrade mainnet deployment

TBA November 2026, date TBC
Online Location
SUI Sui (Mysten Labs)

⚠ The date is not confirmed yet and may change.

Mysten Labs, the company behind the Sui blockchain, plans to deploy quantum-resistant security technology on the Sui mainnet in November 2026. The exact day has not been announced, and the timing remains tentative. The upgrade concerns the SUI network.

What is happening

Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder and chief product officer of Mysten Labs, said at a press conference in Seoul that the company is developing security technology to defend against attacks based on quantum computing. According to his remarks, the plan is to deploy it on the mainnet "next month" relative to the event, which places the rollout in November 2026.

Abiodun described two separate risks behind the effort: the speed at which AI agents can attempt attacks, far faster than humans, and the threat that quantum computing poses to the security of existing blockchains such as Bitcoin. The quantum-resistant upgrade is aimed at guarding against sophisticated, state-level hacking attempts.

The same event covered other security work. Mysten Labs described its Sui Threat Intelligence tool, which automatically detects and verifies malicious transactions attempted by AI agents or humans and halts a transaction if a risk is confirmed. That software is expected to be applied to the Sui network soon. No technical specification, audit details or exact activation date for the quantum-resistant upgrade were given.

Why it matters

Quantum computing is widely discussed as a long-term risk to the cryptography that protects blockchain accounts and signatures. A mainnet deployment of defensive technology would show how Sui intends to address that risk ahead of most large networks. For SUI holders, the main questions are how the change is implemented and whether it affects wallets, signing methods or applications built on the network.

For traders and developers, the practical interest lies in the rollout details: the final date, whether any action is required from users or validators, and how the upgrade fits into Sui's wider security and AI-agent infrastructure plans. Because the date is not confirmed, the schedule may change, and the technical scope is still unclear.
