Gnosis Chain EEZ-style rollup block (early target)
Mainnet Launch Ethereum

Gnosis Chain EEZ-style rollup block (early target)

Q1 2027 date TBC
Online Location
ETH · GNO Gnosis / Ethereum Economic Zone

⚠ The date is not confirmed yet and may change.

Gnosis Chain has been discussed as an early target for an EEZ-style rollup block, with the timing tentatively placed in the first quarter of 2027 (late 2026 or early 2027). The event involves ETH and GNO and is not a confirmed launch date.

What is happening

The Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ) is a rollup framework backed by Gnosis and Zisk, with support from the Ethereum Foundation. It was introduced publicly around EthCC in Cannes in March 2026. Its stated aim is to make participating rollups extensions of Ethereum rather than separate execution environments, with ETH as the gas token and settlement anchored to the base layer.

On October 5, 2026, EEZ core contributor Eduardo Antuña Díez published evidence of an atomic Layer 1 to Layer 2 transaction settled on Ethereum mainnet. The transaction carried 0.001 ETH together with a rollup state update, both landing under the same Ethereum block ordering. Related actions on both layers either succeed together or revert together, which removes the half-finished states common in bridge and deposit-and-wait flows.

Gnosis Chain has been named as an early candidate for an EEZ-style rollup block. According to the sources, this would be a further test of whether atomic synchronous composability can move beyond a single mainnet demonstration. The date has not been officially confirmed, and the timeline may change.

Why it matters

Today, protocols often run separate deployments on each network, which splits liquidity and forces users to bridge before they can act. The EEZ design proposes one deployment, shared liquidity and cross-layer calls that behave more like ordinary contract calls. A working EEZ-style block on Gnosis Chain would show whether this approach can operate in a live environment beyond a minimal proof.

For ETH and GNO holders and traders, the event is a development milestone to follow rather than a guaranteed outcome. The October transaction was a narrow technical proof, and the project has not presented it as infrastructure ready for large financial flows. Rollups that join the zone also accept Ethereum's ordering as the source of final sequence, a trade-off that makes the lockstep behavior possible. Watch for confirmation of the timeline, audit progress, live blob encoding work and testing with applications such as CoW Swap and Uniswap v4.
