Sui Hashi mainnet phased rollout
Hashi, a protocol on Sui that issues hBTC against native Bitcoin deposits, is scheduled to launch its mainnet in phases in October 2026. No exact launch date or time has been specified, and the event involves SUI and BTC.
What is happening
Hashi is designed to let users deposit BTC while the asset stays on the Bitcoin network. The protocol issues hBTC on Sui against deposited BTC and burns hBTC when users exit, releasing the native BTC. BTC collateral uses a 2-of-2 multisignature structure involving Hashi validators and a Guardian Layer.
Anchorage Digital has joined as a day-one launch partner and is offering two potential routes for using BTC as collateral without selling it. Atlas is its tri-party settlement and collateral infrastructure for clients using qualified custody, aimed at public companies and digital-asset treasury companies holding BTC. Porto is its institutional self-custody wallet, aimed at crypto-native venture funds, hedge funds, miners, market makers and liquidity providers. Anchorage also plans to provide stablecoin liquidity to Hashi, but the stablecoin, amount and delivery date have not been specified.
As of October 8, more than $500 million in capital commitments had been announced by a coalition of more than 20 companies, including BitGo, Bullish, Cumberland, FalconX and Ledger. This figure represents announced commitments, not confirmed deposits or live total value locked. The infrastructure is intended to support lending, borrowing, credit, vaults, structured products and other Bitcoin-backed applications on Sui.
Why it matters
The rollout is the next scheduled step for Hashi and a test of whether institutional Bitcoin holders will use on-chain collateral routes while keeping their BTC. Nathan McCauley, CEO and co-founder of Anchorage Digital, noted that institutions hold large amounts of Bitcoin but have been constrained in using that capital by available technology and the limits of DeFi.
For SUI holders and traders, the launch is an indicator of whether Bitcoin-backed activity develops on the Sui network. The announced commitments are not the same as deposits, so actual usage after launch is the figure to follow. Since the rollout is phased, early functionality and capacity may be limited at first.
