Blur marketplace website shutdown and Blend lending cut-off
Blur will switch off its blur.io website on November 12, 2026, and from that day its Blend lending product will stop arranging new loans. The event concerns the BLUR token and ETH, which is used for Blend loans.
What is happening
Blur announced the step on October 12 through its channel on X, and CoinDesk reported on it on October 13. Only the website is being shut down: the smart contracts on Ethereum are meant to keep running. NFTs held in a wallet remain the owner's property, but the convenient interface for browsing collections, placing bids and listing items disappears, so anyone wanting to sell will need another venue.
Blend is Blur's lending product, in which a holder deposits an NFT as collateral and receives ether, while a lender earns interest. From November 12 no new loans will be arranged. Borrowers who do not repay outstanding loans by that date risk default, which means the collateral passes to the lender. Blur intends to provide a tool for withdrawing balances from Blend after the cut-off, but has given no date for it.
Blur launched at the end of 2022 with a zero-fee model and at one point handled more than 70 percent of Ethereum NFT trading. Monthly volume has fallen from about $1.43 billion in March 2023 to under $7 million in March 2026. Funds in the protocol stood at $22.9 million on October 13, against $215.9 million at the March 2024 peak.
Why it matters
For borrowers, the date is a hard decision point. Because the withdrawal tool has no announced date, repayment before November 12 is the route that does not depend on a further announcement. Whether repaying makes sense depends on the current value of the collateral, the remaining debt and the borrower's tax position. Traders with open bids or listings need to withdraw them and find another marketplace.
The BLUR token reacted sharply: on the morning of October 13 it traded around $0.0123, down 33.9 percent in 24 hours and close to its all-time low of $0.01228. Token holders reportedly keep control of the fee switch vote, though this has no clear practical value without a running interface. The shutdown follows the wind-down of the Blast network, announced on October 2 and developed by the same team, with a withdrawal deadline of October 26. Users with funds in both places face two separate dates.
