SEC final deadline on VanEck JitoSOL ETF
On November 15, 2026, the US Securities and Exchange Commission must approve or reject Nasdaq's filing for the VanEck JitoSOL ETF, with no further extension possible. The product involves JitoSOL, a liquid staking token on Solana, and the underlying SOL.
What is happening
Nasdaq filed the application on March 10, 2026, and it was published on March 20. Under Section 19(b)(2) of the Securities Exchange Act, the SEC has 180 days from publication to decide, a period that ended on September 16, 2026. The Commission may extend this by a maximum of 60 days, and it did so in a notice dated September 14. That brings the final date to November 15, 2026. Earlier steps are documented in the Federal Register: a first extension on May 1 and the institution of formal proceedings on June 17.
The fund would hold JitoSOL rather than SOL itself. JitoSOL is a liquid staking token issued by the Jito stake pool, which has roughly 8 million tokens in circulation, worth a little over $1.1 billion. Staking rewards are not paid out but built into the exchange ratio, so one JitoSOL corresponds to about 1.30 SOL. The pool currently reports an annual yield of 4.57 percent, against an average of 3.72 percent across Solana validators, according to Stakewiz. The difference comes mainly from MEV revenue, which can vary with trading activity.
The Commission has received no comment letters on the proposed rule change. Separately, on October 14, 2026, VanEck Digital Assets withdrew its registration for the VanEck Lido Staked Ethereum ETF; the JitoSOL application is unaffected. In Europe, 21Shares has offered a Jito Staked SOL ETP (ticker JSOL) since January 28, 2026, but its assets stand at only about $1.19 million.
Why it matters
No staking ETF currently exists in the United States. An approval would create the first US fund built on a liquid staking token, which could serve as a precedent for similar applications, including those based on tokens such as stETH. It could also open a route for American institutional investors to gain exposure to JitoSOL. A rejection would leave the product type without a US wrapper for now.
For holders and traders, the structure carries risks beyond ordinary price risk. A fund on JitoSOL holds a claim on a stake pool, so software or pool failures could cause the token to diverge from the SOL staked behind it. Yield from MEV is also variable. The low uptake of the European product shows that availability of a wrapper alone does not guarantee demand. This is not financial advice, and no price outcome follows from the decision.
