XRPL Commons New York hackathon (XRP Ledger lending)
XRPL Commons, together with the XRPL Foundation and Swell, hosts a hackathon in New York beginning on October 24, 2026. Developers will build applications around proposed XRP Ledger lending features, with XRP as the coin involved.
What is happening
The event is hosted by XRPL Commons with the XRPL Foundation and Swell. The program covers lending applications, protocol development and artificial intelligence payments. Prizes total more than $40,000, and winners may also receive access to grants and incubation.
The lending work centers on three proposed amendments in the validator process. XLS-65 would let users pool one asset in a vault and receive shares representing their deposits. XLS-66 would use assets held in those vaults to fund loans recorded on the ledger. LendingProtocolV1_1 would add closed-ended vaults with subscription, investment and redemption phases.
The proposals describe fixed-term loans. Credit decisions would be made by brokers and borrowers rather than by the protocol itself. The hackathon gives developers a setting to build on these proposed features, but it does not activate them on the XRP Ledger.
Why it matters
The hackathon offers an early, practical test of the proposed lending tools. Applications built during the event can show how the vault and loan mechanisms might be used in practice, and the prizes, grants and incubation access may help keep developers working on the ecosystem after the event ends.
For XRP holders and traders, it is important to separate development activity from network changes. The amendments still need sustained support from trusted validators before they can take effect, and no mainnet activation date has been set. The hackathon continues development work around the proposed lending system, but the outcome remains subject to a validator decision.
