Unichain mainnet migration to OP Enterprise
Unichain, the layer-2 network built by Uniswap Labs, is scheduled to migrate its mainnet to Optimism's OP Enterprise on October 29, 2026. The move involves the UNI, OP and ETH ecosystems and is meant to prepare Unichain for native interoperability with other OP Stack chains.
What is happening
Uniswap Labs announced that Unichain is moving to OP Enterprise from Optimism. The test network migrates first, on October 13, and the mainnet follows on October 29. Uniswap Labs says users will notice no difference: the chain ID, contracts, balances and apps remain unchanged, including Uniswap's v2, v3 and v4 deployments.
Unichain stays a Stage 1 rollup with permissionless fault proofs. Contract upgrades remain under Optimism Governance and the Security Council, as they do today. Optimism continues to operate the production stack, including sequencers on mainnet and testnet, RPC, monitoring and incident response.
The purpose of the migration is to enable native interoperability across OP Stack chains. Once that feature is live, users are expected to move assets, starting with ETH, between Unichain and other OP Stack chains without a bridge. Uniswap Labs said Unichain users will get first access to native interoperability and new OP Stack releases as they ship. The announcement did not give a date for interoperability to go live.
Why it matters
For Unichain users and Uniswap liquidity providers, the migration is designed to be seamless, so no manual action is described in the announcement. The longer-term effect depends on interoperability, which would let assets move between OP Stack chains without relying on separate bridge infrastructure. Because no launch date for that feature has been given, the migration itself should be viewed as a preparatory step rather than the delivery of the new functionality.
For observers of the Optimism ecosystem, the move places Unichain on the same infrastructure Optimism offers to companies under its OP Enterprise product. Optimism has also changed its token plans this year: an August governance vote moved 546.9 million OP from the user airdrop allocation to an enterprise fund controlled by the Optimism Foundation, and the foundation separately proposed in January to use half of Superchain revenue for monthly OP buybacks. Traders and holders of UNI, OP and ETH may want to follow how these developments and the interoperability rollout progress.
