Qivalis euro e-money token (EMT) issuance
⚠ The date is not confirmed yet and may change.
Qivalis, a company backed by 37 European banks, plans to issue a euro-denominated e-money token in the fourth quarter of 2026 or shortly after. No exact date is set and the timing remains tentative; the project has no listed coin yet.
What is happening
On October 14, 2026, De Nederlandsche Bank granted Qivalis B.V., based in Amsterdam, authorisation as an electronic money institution. This entitles the company to issue euro-denominated e-money tokens. Because the licence was granted in the Netherlands, it can be used across the EU through passporting.
The authorisation is not the same as a product launch. Before the first issuance, Qivalis must still publish the whitepaper required by the MiCA regulation and meet its other requirements. The company says it intends to issue the token in the coming months but has named no date. Its own legal notice states that it currently issues no electronic money and provides no payment services to the public. The blockchain and the name of the token have not been announced either; Ethereum was named as the intended network in earlier reporting.
Qivalis describes itself as a joint venture of 37 banks from 15 countries, including BBVA, BNP Paribas, ING and DZ Bank. According to reports, the token is to be distributed through banks, crypto exchanges and payment service providers rather than directly to consumers. As an e-money token under MiCA, it must be fully backed, redeemable at face value at any time, and may not pay interest.
Why it matters
The stablecoin market is dominated by dollar tokens. A euro token issued by a consortium of supervised banks offers an alternative for users who count in euros and want to avoid the euro-dollar exchange-rate risk. The banking backing also points to possible use in payment settlement between institutions, not only in exchange trading.
For holders and traders, the practical points are the whitepaper, which will set out reserves, redemption and risks, and the choice of distribution partners, whose fees and redemption options will shape the real user experience. Until the whitepaper is published and the token appears in the ESMA register, no tradable Qivalis token exists, and any offer claiming otherwise should be treated with caution. Swapping other crypto assets into a euro stablecoin may also be a taxable disposal in some jurisdictions, including Germany.
