Ledger Atom shipping begins (Founders' Edition)
⚠ The date is not confirmed yet and may change.
Ledger plans to start shipping the Founders' Edition of its Atom hardware signer in the second or third quarter of 2027, with the company pointing to summer 2027. The exact shipping date has not been announced and is not confirmed, and no specific coins are tied to the launch.
What is happening
Ledger introduced Atom on October 15, 2026, at its Op3n event. The device runs two systems side by side: a hardened Android Open Source Project environment for ordinary third-party apps, and Ledger OS on a Common Criteria EAL6+ secure element. Keys are generated and stored inside the secure element, and a separate Ledger OS PIN authorizes sensitive actions. A physical Privacy Switch cuts power to the camera and microphone.
Atom is paired with Ledger Agent Intent, a control layer for AI agents. Under the "agents propose, users approve" model, an agent can read information and suggest an action but never holds private keys, and asset-moving actions require physical approval on the Secure Screen. Ledger Wallet runs directly on the device and covers more than 100 chains. Announced partners include Solana Mobile, Kraken (which is exploring support), Persona and Cyber50.
Reservations require a fully refundable $100 deposit. The Founders' Edition is priced at $849, with an expected post-launch price of $899, and includes a $50 Bitcoin voucher and three months of Ledger Recover. Ledger states that shipping depends on certifications such as FCC approval, and that specs, features and price may change before launch.
Why it matters
For existing and prospective Ledger users, Atom is a notable change of product category: a signer that also behaves like an Android handset, rather than a standalone device paired with a phone. It is data-only, does not support voice calls, SMS or emergency services, and Ledger says it is not meant to replace a phone. The practical question for buyers is whether the combination of everyday apps and a secure element delivers the isolation Ledger describes.
The AI-agent approval layer may be relevant even for those who never buy Atom. Ledger says Agent Intent is free and works with Nano Gen5, Flex and Stax, so the approval model can be used on existing devices. Ledger also describes Atom as quantum ready, but its documentation notes the secure element can accept updates adding post-quantum cryptography and does not yet call it quantum-resistant, so the label should be read as forward compatibility. Because the date is tentative, early reservers should watch for certification news and any changes to price or features.
