Fireblocks support for Cardano CIP-26 and CIP-68 tokens
Fireblocks is expected to treat Cardano tokens built on the CIP-26 and CIP-68 standards as standard assets by March 2027, easing custody for its institutional clients. The exact day within the month has not been specified, and the event concerns the Cardano ecosystem and ADA.
What is happening
On September 24, 2026, the Cardano project said that Fireblocks will handle native tokens that use the Cardano Token Registry (CIP-26) and the on-chain metadata standard (CIP-68) as standard assets. Until now, such tokens required manual steps on the platform. Fireblocks has supported ADA itself since 2021, so the change concerns the wider set of native tokens issued on the network rather than the base coin.
Support is expected by March 2027 and is aimed at the Fireblocks client base of banks, exchanges, payment companies and fintech firms. The timing is stated as an expectation for the month, not a specific release date.
The step comes alongside other Cardano developments. On October 7, 2026, the Cardano Foundation said its programmable token standard CIP-0113 is live on mainnet, allowing issuers of stablecoins, tokenized funds and other regulated assets to attach KYC and AML checks and transfer restrictions to native tokens. Wallet and explorer support, including Eternl, GeroWallet, CardanoScan and BloxBean, has been announced for it.
Why it matters
Standard-asset treatment lowers operational friction for institutions that already rely on the Fireblocks custody stack. Tokens that previously needed manual handling would be easier to hold and move, which could widen the practical distribution path for Cardano-issued assets among regulated players.
Custody access is not the same as demand. Analysts note that it does not oblige clients to issue, hold or settle assets on Cardano rather than on other networks where tokenized funds already operate. For holders and traders, the useful signals to follow are whether clients actually switch on the support and whether named workflows appear, such as a stablecoin with published transfer counts or custody clients holding CIP-26 and CIP-68 assets as regular inventory. As of early October 2026, ADA trades in the mid-$0.20s, and no large issuer has yet published volumes minted under the new CIP-0113 standard.
