Ethereum Economic Zone first production EEZ rollup (Gnosis Chain transition)

TBA December 2026, date TBC
Online Location
ETH · GNO Ethereum Economic Zone (Gnosis / Zisk)

⚠ The date is not confirmed yet and may change.

The first production rollup built on the Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ), tied to Gnosis Chain's planned transition, is tentatively expected in December 2026, with some timelines pointing to January 2027. The exact date has not been confirmed. The event involves ETH and GNO.

What is happening

The EEZ is a framework built by Gnosis and Zisk with co-funding from the Ethereum Foundation. It was introduced by Gnosis co-founder Friederike Ernst and Zisk founder Jordi Baylina on March 29, 2026, at EthCC in Cannes. The framework relies on Zisk's real-time zero-knowledge proving technology, uses ETH as its default asset and introduces no new token.

On October 5, 2026, EEZ contributors reported what they describe as the first atomic transaction from Ethereum Layer 1 to a Layer 2 rollup on mainnet. The on-chain record shows a call that moved 0.001 ETH alongside a rollup state update. It was a technical proof transaction, not a retail transfer or a live product launch. In the design, the Layer 1 call and the Layer 2 update either both execute or both revert, which removes the waiting periods and partial-execution risks of standard bridge transfers.

The first production EEZ rollup is the planned next step. Earlier project timelines place it around December 2026 or January 2027, linked to Gnosis Chain's transition. It would bring synchronous composability, where contracts on a connected rollup and on Ethereum mainnet can call each other within a single coordinated transaction, to real applications.

Why it matters

The stated goal of the EEZ is to reduce fragmentation across the growing number of Ethereum Layer 2 networks. A production rollup handling real applications and liquidity would show whether the approach works beyond a demonstration transaction. For GNO holders, the event is relevant because it is linked to Gnosis Chain's planned transition.

There is a trade-off: participating rollups must accept Ethereum's final authority over transaction ordering, a choice not every Layer 2 team may make. Traders and holders may want to watch whether other rollups adopt the framework and how the production launch performs under real usage. Because the timing is tentative, the schedule could shift.
