Coinbase Pro relaunch as professional platform
Coinbase plans to bring back Coinbase Pro at the end of 2026 as the dedicated professional trading platform within its "Everything Exchange." The relaunch is confirmed for December 2026; the exact day has not been announced.
What is happening
Coinbase said it will revive the Coinbase Pro brand, which it began phasing out in 2022 and shut down in November 2023. The new version is described as a rebuilt platform with faster order routing aimed at high-volume traders. In the company's words, Coinbase Pro will return "at the end of this year" as the professional platform inside the Everything Exchange.
The announcement came alongside the completion of Coinbase's integration of the crypto options exchange Deribit, which created the Coinbase Global Exchange. Coinbase said this venue will soon connect US and global crypto derivatives markets in a single regulated liquidity pool, including more than $30 billion in Bitcoin options open interest as of Sept. 30. The integration follows Coinbase's acquisition of Deribit, which closed in August 2025.
Over the next several weeks, Coinbase Advanced and Coinbase Prime are due to receive crypto options, unified portfolios with cross-asset margin, and spot margin trading with leverage of up to 10x on selected major assets and up to 5x on other supported assets. Options will first reach eligible traders outside the US, with US retail access planned later this year. Coinbase also pointed to a new high-performance matching engine already powering its derivatives markets and updated fee tiers for Coinbase Advanced traders starting at $10,000 in qualifying volume.
Why it matters
The return of Coinbase Pro signals that Coinbase wants a distinct environment for professional and high-volume traders alongside its existing retail and advanced products. For active traders, faster order routing and access to a combined pool of US and global derivatives liquidity may be relevant when comparing execution venues.
The move also fits the competitive picture in derivatives, where platforms are expanding their offerings to win trading volume; Robinhood, for example, recently introduced crypto perpetual futures. Holders and traders may want to watch whether the relaunch date is confirmed more precisely, which features Coinbase Pro offers at launch, and how access differs for US and non-US users, since several of the related products have regional restrictions.
