CME Emerging Crypto Index first rebalance

TBA December 2026, date TBC
Online Location
LINK · BNB · XRP · SOL · HYPE CME Group / CF Benchmarks

The first rebalance of the CME Emerging Crypto Index, a ten-coin benchmark that excludes Bitcoin and Ethereum, is scheduled for December 2026. The exact day has not been specified. Coins involved include LINK, BNB, XRP, SOL and HYPE.

What is happening

CME Group and CF Benchmarks introduced the CME Emerging Crypto Index on August 31, 2026. The index tracks ten digital assets and deliberately leaves out Bitcoin and Ethereum, focusing on a broader set of altcoins. Its first scheduled rebalance, the periodic review that resets the index's constituents and weights, is set for December 2026.

The current weight distribution is heavily concentrated. BNB, XRP, Solana and Hyperliquid together account for about 93% of the index, while the remaining six coins, including Chainlink, share roughly 7.3% of the total weight.

At present, no futures are listed on the index, so funds have no listed vehicle for tracking it. The source article notes that a potential futures launch in the future could act as a catalyst for investment in coins such as Chainlink, but no such launch has been announced.

Why it matters

A rebalance can change how much weight each coin carries in a benchmark. For holders of smaller constituents such as LINK, the weighting is relevant because it determines how much exposure an index-linked product would give them. Since the index is currently dominated by a handful of larger assets, any change in weights at the December review will be closely watched.

For traders, the main point is the absence of listed futures. Without a futures contract, the index has no direct trading product, so the rebalance is more of a structural milestone than an immediate market driver. Interest could grow if CME later lists futures, but that remains a possibility rather than a confirmed plan. Observers may also follow related indicators, such as spot Chainlink ETF flows, which have been uneven in recent weeks.
