The Clearing House tokenised deposits: first institutions and customers onboarding
⚠ The date is not confirmed yet and may change.
In the first quarter of 2027, The Clearing House plans to prepare the first banks and their customers for its network for tokenised deposits, with Quant (QNT) supplying the technology. The exact date is not fixed, and the timing remains tentative.
What is happening
The Clearing House selected Quant on September 24, 2026 as technology partner for its On-Chain Money Initiative. Quant provides the layer for interoperability, orchestration and transaction management that coordinates clearing and settlement of tokenised deposits, along with the connection to existing payment systems such as RTP and CHIPS. According to CEO David Watson, the staged plan runs from partner selection, to design and connectivity work with banks in the autumn of 2026, to preparing the first institutions and their customers in Q1 2027, and finally to live transactions in Q2 2027.
The June 2026 release named 17 participating institutions, including Bank of America, BNY, Citi, HSBC, J.P. Morgan Payments, PNC Bank, Truist, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo. However, neither the June nor the September release names the institutions that will take part at launch, a price or a regulatory approval. Further detail on participation and use cases is to follow as development progresses.
A comparable precedent exists in the UK: seven banks completed the first real customer transactions on the Great British Tokenised Deposits platform, also built by Quant, roughly 388 days after the pilot was announced. Quant and Murex also demonstrated a repo trade against a tokenised US Treasury at the Sibos conference in Miami, including a deliberate mid-transaction abort that unwound cleanly.
Why it matters
The onboarding phase is the checkpoint that shows whether the Q2 2027 live launch is realistic. Integration work between core banking systems produces few public announcements, so visible progress with the first institutions in Q1 is one of the few indirect signals available. Slippage in this quarter would put the second-quarter launch at risk.
For QNT holders and traders, the open questions are practical. The releases describe Quant as a technology supplier without naming a token or a fee model, so how the token might participate in network revenue has not been published. Watch for announcements on which banks are onboarded, how many connect at the same time, and any detail on commercial terms. A launch with only a few institutions would meet the timetable but fall short of the broad participation described in the June release.
