BNB Chain Jenner mainnet upgrade
⚠ The date is not confirmed yet and may change.
BNB Chain has given late-November 2026 guidance for the Jenner mainnet release on BNB Smart Chain, with the exact day and time not yet announced. The upgrade would bring native CAS20 stablecoin and asset token infrastructure to the network and relates to the BNB ecosystem. The timing is tentative and not confirmed.
What is happening
Jenner is a hard fork for BNB Smart Chain. The v1.8.1 release, published on Oct. 16, schedules it for the Chapel testnet on Oct. 29 at 02:30 UTC. An earlier announcement gave late-November guidance for mainnet, but no exact mainnet time has been set.
The fork advances the proposed BEP-702 standard, which is still labeled Draft. It covers the new CAS20 token family, which would put common token behavior into native chain logic implemented as stateful precompiles. Existing BEP-20 tokens would remain unaffected. CAS20 comes in two variants, Stablecoin and Asset, and BNB Chain is currently seeking early-access issuers.
The design splits authority across several layers. Chain governance appoints an activation administrator through GovHub, BSC's governance forwarding contract. That administrator operates separate switches for creating Asset-variant tokens, creating Stablecoin-variant tokens, and writing to a shared policy registry. Within each token, minting, self-burning, seizure, pausing and unpausing use separate roles, and seizure is disabled by default for holders unless they fall outside a configured exemption policy.
Why it matters
For issuers, installing Jenner support and having creation activated for a chosen token variant are different milestones. A mainnet release alone would not mean new CAS20 tokens can be launched immediately. It would also leave open which address holds the activation role and which features have been opened.
For holders and traders, the article notes that closing a creation switch would not stop existing tokens from minting, transferring or administering roles, and it is not a direct mechanism for moving or freezing balances. However, a disabled policy registry could leave an already restricted account on a list that cannot be edited. The proposal also warns that a defect in native client code could affect multiple CAS20 tokens and require another hard fork. The Oct. 29 testnet fork is the next scheduled step to watch.
