UKWorld (WLD) token unlock rate cut by 43%
On July 24, 2027, World will slow the daily release of its WLD token by a combined 43%, cutting the pace of both its community and its investor and team unlock schedules.
What is happening
World, the human identity verification project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, is reducing the rate at which WLD tokens are released each day. The change affects two separate unlock schedules and is the first major change to the project's token release structure since launch.
Community-owned tokens will see their daily unlock rate fall by 50%, to 1.6 million WLD per day. Investor and team tokens will unlock 32% more slowly, at 1.3 million WLD per day. Both changes take effect on the same date, which marks the anniversary of the project's public launch on July 24, 2023.
At launch, 500 million WLD tokens from the community allocation were released immediately. The remaining 9.5 billion tokens were placed on continuous daily unlock schedules, with the final tranche due 15 years after launch. At the time of the original report, 4.9 billion WLD, or 49% of the total supply, had been unlocked, and WLD traded around $0.28 with a market capitalization of roughly $900 million.
World's core mission is to distribute verified digital identities to people willing to confirm they are human, with the long-term aim of building infrastructure that separates human users from AI-generated actors online. Its chief developer is Tools for Humanity.
