Standard Chartered Singapore institutional crypto custody launch
⚠ The date is not confirmed yet and may change.
Standard Chartered's Singapore unit plans to introduce institutional custody for selected cryptocurrencies, stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the exact date not yet set. The timing is tentative and depends on regulatory approval.
What is happening
Standard Chartered said its Singapore unit intends to roll out institutional custody services by the end of 2026. The planned scope covers selected cryptocurrencies, stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets. The bank has not named specific assets for the Singapore service, and the launch remains subject to regulatory approval, so the date is not confirmed.
The plan follows the bank's wider expansion in digital-asset custody. It already offers crypto custody in the United Arab Emirates, Luxembourg and Hong Kong. Most recently, it began offering institutional custody for Ripple's dollar-pegged stablecoin RLUSD on the XRP Ledger through its Dubai International Financial Centre branch, which is supervised by the Dubai Financial Services Authority.
The bank has also been consolidating its custody operations. Earlier this year it fully acquired Zodia Custody, the digital-asset custodian it incubated with Northern Trust in 2020. Its pattern in the region has been to start with custody and execution and then add services such as collateral arrangements.
Why it matters
For institutional clients, custody from a regulated bank addresses a core governance requirement: segregated, auditable safekeeping that fits internal investment mandates and regulatory obligations. A Singapore service would extend the bank's digital-asset footprint into one of Asia's main financial centres and widen the range of regulated custody options available there.
For holders and traders, the event is mainly an infrastructure signal rather than a market catalyst. The tentative date and the pending approval mean the timeline could shift, and the list of supported assets has not been disclosed. It is worth watching for regulatory clearance, the announcement of supported tokens, and whether the Singapore service follows the Dubai model of adding collateral-related features after custody goes live.
