Samsung Wallet USDC stablecoin launch in the U.S.
Samsung Electronics America and Coinbase plan to launch stablecoin services in Samsung Wallet during the last week of October 2026, from October 26 to October 31. USDC will be the default dollar option for eligible U.S. Galaxy users, and no exact launch day has been announced.
What is happening
Samsung Electronics America announced the feature on October 7, and Coinbase followed on October 8, confirming that it will power USDC as the default dollar stablecoin. Users who tap "Buy Stablecoin" in the wallet will see USDC as the dollar option and will be able to send it to compatible crypto wallets. The companies state that these transfers carry no transfer fees, though the claim comes with footnotes, so network or recipient costs may still apply.
Eligible users will also be able to send money to qualifying bank accounts in more than 60 countries. Recipients may receive local currency and do not need a crypto wallet. No extra app is required, and transfers need biometric authentication on a registered device. The first release covers about 82 million U.S. Galaxy devices.
The payment framework is run by Bastion, a licensed stablecoin custodian overseen by U.S. financial regulators, with Coinbase named as sub-custodian through Prime Vault. This is not self-custody: users do not manage private keys. USDC is the only stablecoin at launch, and more may be added later. Samsung names Solana and Sui as network partners; SUI tokens are not supported.
Why it matters
The launch places USDC inside a mainstream mobile wallet that many Galaxy owners already use, with no separate crypto app to set up. For users, the practical change is simpler cross-border transfers. For USDC, it adds a large potential audience at the point where it becomes the default dollar option. Coinbase reports that USDC circulation grew 72% in 2025 to more than $75 billion, and that wallets holding it rose 59% to nearly 7 million.
Holders and traders should note the limits of the first release: eligibility, device support, regulation and a basic feature set. Because custody is handled by the companies involved, users rely on them to safeguard funds. Possible later steps, such as paying with stablecoins online or by tapping a Galaxy device in stores, and expansion to other markets, are not confirmed. It is worth waiting for official launch details before planning any transfer.
