Qivalis euro stablecoin (EMT) issuance launch
⚠ The date is not confirmed yet and may change.
Qivalis, the Amsterdam-based issuer backed by 37 European banks, plans to begin issuing its euro-denominated electronic money token (EMT) after receiving its Electronic Money Institution authorisation. The launch is tentatively placed in the first quarter of 2027, and the exact date has not been confirmed.
What is happening
On 14 October 2026, Qivalis announced that De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) had granted it authorisation as an Electronic Money Institution (EMI). The company is now under ongoing DNB supervision and is eligible to issue euro-denominated EMTs. According to the announcement, a decisive regulatory condition for issuing the token has been met, and issuance is planned to begin "within the next months."
Issuance is still subject to the applicable requirements of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) and to the publication of the White Paper. Because no specific launch date has been announced, the timing of this event remains tentative and may shift depending on how quickly those steps are completed.
Qivalis will use a B2B2X model, distributing its EMT through eligible counterparties such as banks, exchanges, payment service providers and market infrastructure participants. The company was founded in September 2025 and is backed by 37 banks across 15 countries. Governance rests with an independent management team and a supervisory board chaired by Sir Howard Davies, former Chairman of NatWest Group and the UK Financial Services Authority. CEO Jan-Oliver Sell described the goal as a euro-denominated on-chain settlement asset issued under European law and regulatory standards.
Why it matters
A bank-backed, MiCA-regulated euro stablecoin could add a new option to the euro stablecoin segment, which is currently small compared with dollar-denominated tokens. For market participants, the key points are the issuer's regulated status, its supervision by a national central bank and its backing by a large group of European banks. These features may be relevant to institutions that need a compliant on-chain euro instrument for settlement and payments.
For traders and holders, the practical questions are where the token will be available and when. Since distribution will run through banks, exchanges and payment providers, access will depend on which counterparties integrate it. The date remains unconfirmed, so any timeline should be treated with caution until Qivalis publishes further details.
