Moscow Exchange launches crypto trading
Moscow Exchange, Russia's largest exchange, plans to open crypto trading for retail buyers on December 1, 2026. The initial offering is expected to include major coins, with Bitcoin (BTC) and Solana (SOL) named among them.
What is happening
According to a report citing TASS, Boris Blokhin, a senior director at Moscow Exchange, said that test trades began about a week before the announcement. The trades already run through the exchange's stock market system. The launch is planned for December 1.
Retail access is expected to be limited. Everyday buyers would get a short list of major coins, with yearly limits on how much they can buy. Under Russia's new rules, purchases must go through licensed firms rather than directly on an open market. Sberbank is reported to be testing its own service as well and is also targeting December 1.
The coin list has not been published in full. Based on the available reporting, BTC and SOL are expected to be on the first list, but the final set of assets and the exact limits remain to be confirmed.
Why it matters
A regulated, exchange-based route into crypto for retail buyers in a large country could widen the pool of legal participants for the coins involved. For BTC and SOL holders, the relevance lies in the possible arrival of new domestic buyers through familiar channels such as brokers and banks. Whether this translates into meaningful volume will depend on the limits, fees and how many people actually use the service.
For traders, the main practical points are the restrictions. Yearly caps and the requirement to buy through licensed intermediaries mean access will be controlled, and costs may include broker or bank fees on each trade. The launch date is described as a plan, so timing could still shift if testing or regulatory steps change.
