Litecoin halving
⚠ The date is not confirmed yet and may change.
Litecoin's next halving is expected around mid-2027, with the start date given only at month precision (June 2027) and not yet confirmed. The event affects LTC, the native coin of the Litecoin network.
What is happening
The halving is scheduled to take place at block 3,360,000. At that point the mining reward will drop from 6.25 LTC to 3.125 LTC per block, a mechanism similar to Bitcoin's halving events. Because the exact date depends on the pace of block production, the timing is currently an estimate rather than a fixed calendar day.
Litecoin was launched by Charlie Lee on October 13, 2011, and has a supply cap of 84 million LTC. About 77.7 million LTC are currently in circulation. The network handles over one million transactions per week, with average fees reported between $0.003 and $0.01.
Past halvings followed a similar pattern. Before the August 5, 2019 halving, LTC peaked at around $145 in June and closed at about $41 by December. Ahead of the August 2, 2023 halving, it reached roughly $114 in July before falling to around $57 in August. In both cases traders tended to buy ahead of the event and sell as it arrived.
Why it matters
A halving reduces the rate at which new LTC enters circulation, which is why it draws attention from miners, long-term holders and traders. For miners, the lower block reward changes revenue per block. For holders, the event is a scheduled supply change that is known well in advance.
For traders, the earlier cycles show that price behaviour around the event has often involved a run-up beforehand followed by a pullback, though past patterns do not guarantee a repeat. As of October 17, 2026, LTC trades around $60, after a September peak of $80.25 and with a June low of $39.21. Market commentary notes that a monthly close above the September high before the halving would fit the pre-halving rally pattern seen in 2019 and 2023, while a drop below the June low could mean the event passes without a rally. This is context, not a forecast.
