The Clearing House On-Chain Money Initiative: first live tokenised deposit transactions
⚠ The date is not confirmed yet and may change.
The Clearing House plans to process the first real transactions on its interbank network for tokenised deposits in the second quarter of 2027, with Quant supplying the interoperability and orchestration layer. The timing is tentative and tied to a quarter rather than a specific day; the coin involved is QNT.
What is happening
On September 24, 2026, The Clearing House named Quant as the technology partner for its On-Chain Money Initiative. Quant provides the layer for interoperability, orchestration and transaction management through which clearing and settlement of tokenised deposits is coordinated, plus the connection to existing payment systems. The release names RTP for real-time payments and CHIPS for large interbank settlement.
The plan follows four stages described by CEO David Watson in August 2026: selection of the technology partner, joint design and connectivity work with banks in the autumn, preparation of the first institutions and their customers in the first quarter of 2027, and live transactions in the second quarter of 2027. The first stage is complete, and the second is under way. A June 2026 release named 17 participating institutions, including Bank of America, BNY, Citi, HSBC, J.P. Morgan Payments, PNC Bank, Truist, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo. No list of participants at launch, no pricing and no regulatory approval has been published, and further detail on participation and use cases is promised as development progresses.
As a reference point, Quant demonstrated a repo trade against a tokenised US Treasury with Murex at Sibos in Miami from September 28 to October 1, 2026, deliberately aborting the transaction mid-execution to show it can be unwound cleanly. In the UK, seven banks completed first real customer transactions on a Quant-built platform, Great British Tokenised Deposits, about 388 days after the pilot was announced.
Why it matters
For QNT holders, the event is a concrete test of whether a supplier mandate turns into live production use at large banks. The UK precedent shows the technology can reach real customer transactions, but it also shows how long that took and at what scale. The main risk to the timetable is the number of institutions that must be connected at once, not the technology demonstrated so far. A launch with only a few banks could be on schedule and still fall short of the broader network described in June.
It is also unclear whether the QNT token shares in any revenue from the network. The releases describe Quant as a technology supplier and do not mention a token or fee model. Traders should treat the date as unconfirmed and watch for interim signals, such as visible preparation of first institutions in the first quarter of 2027.
