Arthur Hayes' FLOP AI-agent compute network testnet

TBA October 2026, date TBC
Online Location
FLOP Project

⚠ The date is not confirmed yet and may change.

Arthur Hayes is targeting a 90-day testnet for FLOP, a network that would let AI agents pay for computing power on-chain, to start in late October 2026. The timing is tentative, and no specific coins are tied to the event.

What is happening

Arthur Hayes unveiled FLOP at TOKEN2049 in Singapore, which wrapped up on 8 October 2026. The project is described as a network that would allow AI agents to pay for computing power directly on-chain.

Hayes is aiming for a 90-day testnet beginning in late October, followed by a mainnet in the first quarter of 2027. The testnet date is stated only at month precision and has not been confirmed with an exact day, so the schedule may shift.

The idea drew pushback on the same stage. Dragonfly's Haseeb Qureshi said he had been wrong a year earlier, because AI agents ended up paying with ordinary cards rather than crypto. In his view, the tools that buy things online today mostly rely on conventional payment rails, not crypto wallets. AI agents were the loudest theme of the conference's first day, and speakers did not agree on how they will pay for services.

Why it matters

FLOP is an attempt to give AI agents a crypto-native way to buy compute, which would test whether on-chain payments can compete with card-based payments for machine-to-machine commerce. A public testnet would be the first chance for developers and observers to see how the network works in practice, rather than judging it on the announcement alone.

For holders and traders, the event is mainly a milestone to monitor. No token or coin has been named in the available sources, so there is nothing directly tradable to track yet. Key things to watch are whether the testnet launches in late October as planned, what usage it attracts, how the project responds to the skepticism about agents preferring cards, and whether the first-quarter 2027 mainnet target holds.
