2026 National Assembly Legislative Expo - Dunamu inherited virtual asset protection proposal

05–06 November 2026, Thu–Fri
Seoul, Korea South Location
Dunamu (Upbit) Project

Dunamu, the operator of the Upbit exchange, is taking part in the 2026 National Assembly Legislative Expo on November 5-6, 2026, at the Central Lawn Plaza of the National Assembly in Seoul. The company is presenting a plan for an integrated protection system for inherited virtual assets; no specific coins are involved.

What is happening

The Legislative Expo is hosted by the National Assembly Secretariat and collects feedback from the public and companies on institutional difficulties, with the aim of discussing improvements to legislation and policy. Dunamu announced on November 5 that it would take part in the two-day event, and the event is already under way.

At its booth, Dunamu is introducing proposed changes to South Korea's inheritance system, alongside its key services, including Upbit and Giwa, and its investor-protection efforts. The first proposal is to swiftly restrict trading in accounts held in the names of deceased users. Exchanges currently find it hard to confirm that a user has died until an heir files a separate report, which can leave gaps in the protection of inherited assets.

The second proposal is to add virtual assets to the scope of integrated inheritance-asset inquiries. Financial assets, land, vehicles, taxes and pensions can already be searched through consolidated systems, but virtual assets are excluded. Heirs therefore have to contact each exchange individually to find out whether the deceased held digital assets.

Why it matters

For heirs, the proposal targets a practical pain point: locating digital assets currently means checking exchange by exchange. Including crypto in the integrated inquiry system would put it on a par with other asset classes in the inheritance process. Restricting trading on accounts of deceased users is intended to protect those assets until the inheritance is settled.

For exchange users and traders, the event is a signal of how an Upbit operator wants inheritance and account-protection rules to develop. A Dunamu official described digital assets as a blind spot in institutional protection during inheritance, despite being valuable assets held by many people. The presentation is a proposal made at a feedback event, not an adopted rule, and the sources do not describe any legislative commitment or timeline.
