Solana Company Pacific Backbone network buildout
Solana Company is starting the buildout of its Pacific Backbone, a dedicated low-latency network linking Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong, on 17 October 2026. The network is designed to support SOL staking, validation and trading services across the Asia-Pacific region.
What is happening
Solana Company has announced plans for the Pacific Backbone, a purpose-built network connecting four major Asian financial hubs. The infrastructure is intended to serve Solana staking, validation and trading, with a focus on institutional participants such as market makers, high-frequency traders and traditional finance firms that have been entering the crypto market in the region.
The buildout begins immediately. Performance optimization and new product launches are scheduled over the following 12 to 18 months. Planned additions include DeFi tools, liquid staking, automated market makers and execution services built for regulated financial institutions.
Company CEO Joseph Chee described the expansion as preparation for what he called Solana's "next super cycle." The stated goals are to reduce dependence on third-party service providers, cut latency and meet compliance requirements in regulated markets. According to the company, the Solana network processes over 3,500 transactions per second and supports millions of daily active wallets. Solana Company holds 2.3 million SOL, valued at over $180 million, which makes it the second-largest Solana treasury firm.
Why it matters
Latency is a key factor for professional trading and validation, and a dedicated regional network could give institutional users a more predictable environment for working with Solana. The initiative also reflects a wider push by Solana-focused firms to build proprietary infrastructure ahead of expected institutional demand, rather than relying on shared or external network providers already active in the region. For SOL holders, the project is a signal of continued investment in the ecosystem's institutional-facing tooling, though its actual impact will depend on execution and adoption.
Market conditions around the announcement were weak. Shares of Solana Company (HSDT) fell 13.3% to $1.76 on Monday during a broader pullback, while SOL declined close to 6% over the prior 24 hours and Bitcoin dropped more than 4%. Traders and holders may want to watch for concrete milestones, such as the launch of liquid staking, AMMs and execution services, as well as any disclosure about network performance and institutional clients. The product timeline is long, so the effects are likely to unfold gradually rather than at a single date.
