NEXTPredict 2026 prediction markets summit
NEXT.io's NEXTPredict summit on prediction markets is scheduled for October 22-23, 2026, at Convene in Hudson Yards, New York. The event is not tied to any specific coin, and the organizers have drawn attention for hedging it through a Kalshi contract.
What is happening
NEXTPredict is a two-day conference devoted to prediction markets, organized by NEXT.io. It takes place at Convene in Hudson Yards in New York, United States, on October 22 and 23, 2026.
Ahead of the event, the organizers paid a $12,000 premium for contracts through Kalshi, with Susquehanna acting as market maker. The contracts would return about $3 million, which equals the organizer's total investment in the event, if more than half of the flights scheduled to land at John F. Kennedy International Airport are canceled on October 21, the main travel day before the summit.
According to NEXT.io co-founder and managing director Pierre Lindh, the threshold serves as a proxy for a wider disruption in the world. The company has run around 800 events over 13 years and has faced weather and geopolitical interruptions before. Standard event insurance usually pays out only if an event is canceled, which would not cover a situation where the conference goes ahead but attendance suffers. Kalshi self-certified the flight cancellation contracts with the CFTC on July 14 and built this market to order for NEXT.io as an institutional customer. Retail traders cannot access it, and certain causes such as drone incidents and bomb threats do not trigger payment.
Why it matters
For the prediction markets industry, the hedge is presented as an example of these instruments being used as practical business infrastructure rather than only as forecasting tools. Kalshi's chief executive described it in those terms, and Susquehanna said the structure allows the transfer of institutional risk that previously had no path for execution. Lindh expects other event organizers to follow.
The contracts also drew criticism on the grounds that someone could profit by disrupting flights. Lindh called the concern fair but argued that the trade is a business with real exposure buying protection on a regulated venue, with an institutional market maker on the other side. Traders and observers following regulated prediction markets may watch how such custom contracts develop. The summit itself is rated as a lower-importance event, and no token or coin is directly involved.
