US September CPI release

14 October 2026, Wednesday
Online Location
BTC · ETH Bureau of Labor Statistics

The Bureau of Labor Statistics is scheduled to publish the September Consumer Price Index on October 14, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. ET (12:30 UTC). The report is closely watched by crypto markets, with Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) among the assets sensitive to shifts in inflation and monetary policy expectations.

What is happening

The BLS will release its latest reading of consumer-price pressures for September. The previous report, covering August, showed headline inflation up 3.4% from a year earlier and core inflation up 2.4%. The new data will show whether those readings are moving higher or lower.

The release comes ahead of the Federal Reserve's next scheduled meeting on October 27-28. The following day, Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh is scheduled to take part in a discussion with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Bangkok, listed for 11:30 p.m. ET on October 15 (3:30 a.m. UTC on October 16). The event is billed as a discussion, not a speech.

On-chain indicators are mixed going into these events. Wallets holding between 1,000 and 10,000 BTC, excluding exchanges and mining pools, held 3.02 million BTC. Bitcoin apparent demand stood at negative 23,000 BTC on the latest reading. These figures point to accumulation among large holders alongside weaker measured demand, but they do not indicate a price direction.

Why it matters

Inflation data feeds directly into expectations for Federal Reserve policy, which crypto markets track closely. A CPI reading that differs from what traders anticipated can change how the market views the path of interest rates, and that can affect sentiment toward risk assets such as BTC and ETH.

For holders, the release is a scheduled moment of potential volatility rather than a signal of direction. Traders may watch both the headline and core figures, as well as how the market reacts in the hours that follow, and then look to the Warsh discussion and the late-October FOMC meeting for further context. The CPI release does not determine outcomes on its own.
