US PCE inflation release
The US Bureau of Economic Analysis is scheduled to publish the PCE inflation data on October 29, 2026, one day after the Federal Reserve's FOMC decision. The release is a macro event closely watched by Bitcoin (BTC) traders.
What is happening
The Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index is the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation measure. The October 2026 release arrives right after the FOMC meeting on October 27-28, creating a two-day sequence that one analysis describes as the most concentrated macro risk window Bitcoin has faced in a single month since the September 16 rate decision.
The backdrop is a Fed that raised rates by 25 basis points on September 16 to a 3.75-4.00% target range. The September meeting minutes, released on October 7, stated that most officials still viewed another hike this year as appropriate. Bitcoin fell below $83,000 on October 8 after the minutes, and US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $484.9 million in net outflows in a single session.
Market pricing has since shifted. CME FedWatch showed a 25-basis-point October hike probability of 47.1% on October 1, roughly 18% by October 8, and 19.4% as of October 12, with an 80.6% probability of a pause. The next data point before the FOMC meeting is the October 14 CPI print.
Why it matters
Because PCE lands the day after the FOMC decision, a hot reading following a hold would immediately reprice expectations for a December rate hike. For Bitcoin holders and traders, that kind of repricing can affect risk sentiment and ETF flows. A softer reading would work in the opposite direction by reinforcing pause expectations.
The macro setting also matters for the seasonal "Uptober" pattern. Bitcoin has closed October higher in 10 of the 13 years from 2013 to 2025, but October 2025 showed that macro pressure can override seasonality even alongside about $4.7 billion in ETF inflows. October 2026 combines an active Fed rate decision, a large institutional ETF presence and a position 30 months after the last halving. Traders may want to watch the PCE figure alongside the FOMC statement, ETF flow data and the CPI print.
