Ripple monthly XRP escrow release (1 billion XRP)

On 1 November 2026, Ripple's time-locked escrow is scheduled to release 1 billion XRP, as it does on the first day of every month. The event involves the XRP token and is classed as a token unlock.

What is happening

Since the end of 2017, Ripple has kept a large part of its XRP in escrow accounts on the XRP Ledger. These accounts can only be opened on a fixed date, and 1 billion XRP is unlocked on the first day of each month. The release schedule is public and can be checked on the ledger itself.

Whatever Ripple does not need is returned to a new escrow that releases only after all existing ones. This is why the escrows are still running, even though the original 55 monthly tranches would have been used up by the summer of 2022. As of 21 October 2026, about 31.4 billion XRP sat in 98 escrow entries across eight Ripple accounts, spread over 32 release dates. Under the current schedule, the releases run until June 2029.

The unlock does not mean the full amount enters the market. Ripple also holds about 4.1 billion XRP in freely available wallets, and movements in all of these accounts are visible on public XRP explorers.

Why it matters

The escrow caps how much XRP Ripple can release in a given month, but it does not prevent sales. In theory, Ripple can use up to 1 billion XRP a month, which was worth about $1.38 billion at the 21 October 2026 price of $1.38 per XRP. How much is actually sold, used in Ripple's payment products or returned to a new escrow is up to the company.

For holders and traders, the date is a recurring point on the calendar: it shows when new XRP becomes available to Ripple, and wallet activity after the unlock can be followed on-chain. The size of the release is small relative to the circulating supply of about 63 billion XRP, but Ripple's roughly 35.5 billion XRP, just over a third of the total supply, keeps its treasury decisions a topic of ongoing discussion.
