Qubic keynote: Useful Proof of Work in Production
On October 29, 2026, at 1:35 p.m., Qubic co-founder and CTO Roman Thommen will deliver a keynote on useful proof of work at TUM Blockchain Conference 26 in Munich, Germany. The talk concerns the QUBIC network and its approach to putting mining capacity to productive use.
What is happening
The session is titled "Useful Proof of Work in Production: What Happens When Mining Has to Learn" and takes place on the Hopper stage. TUM Blockchain Conference 26 runs from October 29 to 31 at the House of Communication in Munich and is organized by the TUM Blockchain Club, the student club of the Technical University of Munich. October 29 is the conference day, with three parallel stages; Roman Thommen is one of 113 announced speakers.
The keynote is expected to draw on three recent Qubic milestones. Outsourced Computing went live on the mainnet on July 29, allowing third parties to buy the computing power of miners. In epoch 228, at the end of August, Ant Colony mining was activated: miners extend results published by others rather than starting from scratch, and the 676 best miners are rewarded every week. On September 22, Qubic reported a score of 0.38 for its Neuraxon model on the ARC-AGI-3 reasoning test, up from an initial 0.13, obtained on standard processors.
At the same time, the Turing stage hosts a zero-knowledge cryptography session, so attendees will need to choose between the two talks.
Why it matters
For QUBIC holders, the keynote is a public opportunity for the team to present how its model of mining that trains neural networks, instead of performing throwaway calculations, works in production. The three milestones above give the talk concrete material, and the quality of the presented evidence, such as deployment status and measurable results, is what observers will likely focus on.
For traders and followers of the project, the event is a source of information rather than a scheduled protocol change. It does not introduce a token event or a network upgrade by itself, so its relevance depends on any new details or announcements made on stage. The conference is also a venue where the project appears alongside institutional, protocol and research speakers, which may widen its visibility in the European market.
