USDC launch in Samsung Wallet (US)
Coinbase and Samsung are bringing USDC to Samsung Wallet users in the United States, with the launch expected in the last week of October 2026 (October 26-31). USDC will be the default dollar stablecoin in the wallet.
What is happening
Coinbase Global has partnered with Samsung to make USD Coin (USDC) available to Samsung Wallet users in the US. USDC will serve as the default dollar stablecoin within the wallet. The service is scheduled to go live during the last week of October 2026.
On the infrastructure side, Coinbase will provide subcustody through Coinbase Prime, while the licensed infrastructure partner Bastion will also support the service.
The move comes as USDC usage in Coinbase products continues to grow. In the second quarter of 2026, average USDC balances held in Coinbase products reached a record $20 billion, up 44% year over year, and more than 30% of circulating USDC was held in Coinbase products at the end of that quarter. Elsewhere in the sector, Circle announced a partnership with Tereina on October 7, 2026, to integrate USDC and EURC into enterprise workflows, starting with the SAP ecosystem, while PayPal continues to expand its PYUSD stablecoin through its consumer and merchant network.
Why it matters
Samsung's consumer reach could introduce USDC to people outside Coinbase's existing crypto customer base. Placing a stablecoin inside a familiar digital wallet may encourage use for payments and cross-border transfers, and it adds to the wider push to integrate USDC into consumer wallets and business systems. For USDC holders, broader distribution could mean more places where the token can be held and used; for Circle's ecosystem, wider integration could strengthen demand.
The financial effect for Coinbase is less certain. Greater adoption does not automatically translate into higher earnings, and the outcome will depend on customer activity, transaction volumes, operating costs and revenue-sharing arrangements. If usage proves sustained, it could widen Coinbase's distribution and support revenue beyond trading fees, and it may also bring activity to Base, Coinbase's Layer-2 network, if users transact through connected services. Traders and holders may want to watch whether the rollout happens on schedule and how quickly Samsung Wallet users start using the feature.
